Obituary of Barbara Jean Nespor

Barbara Jean Nespor , 70, of Simi Valley, CA, passed away on January 25, 2016 in her home with relatives and friends by her side. There will be a celebration and Rosary said for Barbara at the Rose Family Funeral Home at 4444 Cochran Street, Simi Valley at 7:00 PM Tuesday February 2, 2016. A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church at the corner of Cochran and Stow Streets February 3, 2016 at 11:00 PM with Father Joe Shea officiating with a reception following. Barbara was born in Long Beach, California to Robert and Mary (Tootsie) Elliott on August 20, 1945. She went to Covina High School and graduated in 1963. She went on to Mount Sac Junior College and earned an AA degree. She moved to Manhattan Beach and moved in with two girl friends and got an office job working at Electronic Memories. During this time she met Jerry Nespor and they got engaged on November 22, 1968. Barbara and Jerry were married on March 15, 1969 at Sacred Heart Parish in Covina. They lived in Inglewood, Van Nuys, and moved to a new home in Simi Valley, California in 1970. Barbara volunteered at her son’s schools and did a lot of work with the PTA. She received a life time award for her service. She was a den mother with the cub scouts and worked with the CCD program at Saint Peter Catholic Church. Later she worked for the Simi Valley School District as a health clerk at Sequoia Junior High and registrar at Valley View Middle School. She was kind and generous and made many friends which included teachers, school employees, and students. She could talk to anyone, anytime, anyplace and always make them feel at ease. After she retired she volunteered at the Simi Valley Senior Center until 2015. She enjoyed being there and found great satisfaction being with the seniors who she adored. Barbara discovered she had cancer in 2014. She began treatments but found that the cancer had spread. She continued fighting with the support of family and friends always with love and determination. She left her body on Monday, January 25, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Survivors include her husband, Jerome Nespor, children Jeffrey and Gregory, and grandchildren Matthew and Megan, her sisters Roxanne Vergers, Judith Bennett, Vivian Walker, and fifteen nieces and nephews. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Elliott and her sister Theresa Sanders.
