I grew up in Reseda. I was good friends his brother George and I also grew up on the same street as his lovely wife Lilian. It's been many many years since I've seen Ray but I do remember him as a larger than life person who always had a smile on his face and, as his obituary states, always on the lookout for opportunities. I was sad to hear of his passing. I hope he is at peace. I'm sure he is missed by all who loved him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Torres family. We have lost an incredible, loving, caring and hardworking Man. I met Ray at Hughes Aircraft over 30 years ago. We worked together and became friends. When Hughes Aircraft closed I opened my own cafe and catering business. Ray came to visit to see what type of business I had started. He offered to help with building shelves and moving equipment - "he said he'd work for cheap". That began our working together again. My chef and I asked him if he wanted to learn how to cook. He said, "No .... cooking is for women not men". That didn't last long. Soon after, he began to take an interest in cooking and helping us in the kitchen and catering. Fast forward several years and I called Ray "The Galloping Gourmet". He thought he was the boss. He learned fast, but OMG he sure made a mess!!! Ray became such an asset to Merlin's. Throughout the years of chefs and employees that came and went, he made lots of friends and everyone loved Ray including my family. He became one of my best friends. I feel lost without him. There are so many memories when I look around our kitchen and of all the great times and funny/crazy stories that happened here at Merlin's and on jobs. From fire extinguishers going off in the van - blanketing it with snow, to fires in the parking lot while deep frying turkeys, to catching Ray taking a siesta on the job. Will always remember Ray's crazy repair jobs - got duct tape. Ray was one of a kind!!! Merlin's will never be the same without him. Rest in peach my dear friend!!

Lil, Raymond, Victoria and family, it's so difficult to express or put into words the love and support that is offered to all of you, but my prayer is that with that love and support and through the blessings from God you will gain strength and that your spirits will be lifted.
