Harold C. Horning, 77, of Simi Valley, California past away peacefully in his home on Monday, October 8, 2012. He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on December 23, 1934 to Henry and Anna Horning, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his sister Shirley and his daughter Cheryl. He married Monica Sturn on June 12, 1956. Harold and Monica were married for 27 years and although they were divorced, they remained good friends and she still survives. Harold was a loving and generous father to his surviving children Vickie Andres and her husband Joe, Tammy Day and her husband Ray, Laura Vercoe and her husband Todd, David Horning and his wife Ilda. He is also survived by his grandchildren William Horning, Andrew and Colleen Day, Dylan and Grant Vercoe, Luis E. Rivera-Fraire and Allen K. Fraire. He has three surviving brothers Henry Horning, Elmer Horning and Dominic Horning and two surviving sisters, Margaret Kuntz and Angie Olson. Harold lived most of his life in California and worked for a telecommunications company for 33 years before retiring on December 28, 1990. He had many passions in life, but none greater than fishing. He enjoyed many fishing trips with both family and friends over the span of his lifetime. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate his life at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Rose Family Funeral Home, 4444 Cochran Street, Simi Valley, CA 93063. There will be a reception following the service at the Simi Valley Elk's Lodge, 1561 Kuehner Drive, Simi Valley, CA 93063. A private burial for family members will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
