Obituary of Daniel Patrick Mejia

Daniel Patrick Mejia was born on November 4, 1957 in Belize City, Belize, the first-born son of Daniel & Leonora Mejia. As a child, Daniel attended St. Joseph Elementary School before enrolling in Belize Junior Secondary School and later Belize Technical College. Daniel immigrated to the United States in 1977 living briefly in New Jersey before moving to Southern California in the early ‘80s. Daniel was a great son, brother, father and friend who went to great lengths to support his family and friends. Daniel’s kind and patient nature was always evident to those around him and was most obvious when with his son, Darnell. An avid reader, sports lover – all types, especially, tennis and football, Daniel was in love with the excellence of the Oakland Raiders and was always ready to debate the team’s performance and excellent chances of winning the Superbowl. Watching a tennis match or a Raider game will never be the same. Daniel was an entrepreneur, always welcoming and analyzing business ideas. Always of note was his giving and charitable nature. If a friend was in need, Daniel was there, ironically, he supported a friend through kidney disease, taking her great distances for dialysis, something he would later do for himself. Daniel affable and was always welcoming, a kind listener who made friends everywhere. Daniel never said no to anyone ringing his doorbell, even to missionaries, inviting them in to chat. He even gave “rides” or “jumpstarts” to complete strangers. A notable joker, we can still hear him laughing. Daniel was preceded in death by father Daniel, sisters Lucy and Cynthia, brother Ian and nieces Anya and Lenora. Daniel is survived by mother Leonora, son Darnell, brothers George, Sylvan & John and sister Diane. Also surviving are nephews Brian, Stephone and Keenen, and grand-nephews Alejandro and Daniel. He is also survived by other family members and friends – too numerous to mention. Daniel quietly passed away on August 30, 2016. We are comforted with the knowledge that Daniel rests in peace and he will be fondly remembered. Daniel continues to live in our hearts and minds….
