I was very saddened to learn of the passing of my beloved aunt Ruth. She was a wonderful person, who enriched the lives of everyone she came in contact with. She seemed to dedicate her life to taking care of others, not just her children and then her grandchildren, but countless people she met in connection with her work for the church. In that context, she traveled around the world and met several prominent people, such as the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Reverend Desmond Tutu. When I was growing up, she and her husband Leo provided me the only role model I had of a loving and happy marriage, something my own parents never achieved. Their home on Mountain View Avenue was a happy refuge that I visited many times, even after I left Los Angeles to live on the east coast. Sadly, I was unable to return as often as I would have liked, but such are the conditions of life and work. Always kind and generous, Ruth led an exemplary life. All of us should strive to emulate her, although few of us will be able to do as well.

Ruth was & still is such a guiding force within NYA, I missed her as soon as she retired. And I still think of her warm smile, the twinkle in her eye, her reaching out to old friends and new.
She had an incredible life of doing for others, whether it be at conferences or in news print. But for me, I met her through NYA and saw her in action there- she seemed unperturbed while storms raged about her, but she guided us all in her wake with calm assurance & wisdom.
A great lady.
