Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Arthur Hoyt, 83, passed away on Monday, March 7th, at Simi Valley Hospital. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Linda (Carlson) Hoyt, his son Richard and wife Roberta, his daughter Kimberley and husband Keith, his son Jeffrey and former wife Tracy, and son John and wife Karin; grandchildren Emily, Tyler, Jared, Gracie and Violet, along with his unofficially adopted daughter Ruth, son Tim and former wife Karla and their sons Zachary and Eli. Robert was born in Bremerton, Washington, the son of Herbert Owen Hoyt and Anna Rachel Hoyt-Petersen on May 31st 1932. He had three brothers and one sister. Robert grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended Garfield High School, graduated in 1950 and shortly thereafter joined the US Navy and served during the Korean Conflict as an airplane mechanic. After completing his two years of active duty he joined the Naval Reserves where he completed a total of 38 years of military service retiring in 1988 with the rank of Senior Chief. He spent 38 years as an airline mechanic working for PNA (Pacific Northwest Airlines), which merged with Western Airlines and later Delta Airlines, until he retired in 1989. Robert married Linda Louise Carlson on June 8th, 1959 in Bremerton, Washington at the First Baptist Church. They moved to Kent, Washington, where they lived until 1973 when the family moved to Simi Valley, California. During his life he was a coach or assistant coach for his sons’ Little League and Soccer teams as well as being a member of the Royal High School Band Boosters even after his kids had graduated from high school. Robert collected stamps from childhood through his adult life and was a huge fan of John Wayne. Robert loved watching football and he loved his Seattle Seahawks. After he retired Robert became a stay at home dad and worked around the house doing home improvement projects. He traveled to Japan for the birth of his first granddaughter Emily, took an Alaskan Cruise and made several trips either by car or plane or train to visit family and friends in the Seattle area. In his final year as his health began to decline he moved into Vintage Simi Hills, an assisted living community for seniors. Although he was reluctant at first he soon grew to call it home and became known as the Game Show Man, as he loved watching “The Price is Right”, “Let's Make a Deal”, “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune”. Robert was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Robert quoted at every family dinner that we can remember… "Of all my father's family I love myself the best. If I can get my belly full to hell with all the rest!”
