Obituary of Grethe Hyllested Parry
Please share a memory of Grethe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Grethe Hyllested Parry was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loving friend. She was surrounded by her devoted family as she peacefully passed away on December 20, 2015. Grethe was born May 28, 1931 in Koge, Denmark to her father, Ejnar Peter Nicholai Jensen and her beautiful mother, Erna Hyllested Jonason who later married Viggo Andersen Dyrborg.
Grethe Joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 17 and remained a faithful member all her life. With the encouragement of her mother, she migrated to the United States at age 19 for the opportunity of a better life. Several years later, she met her eternal companion and loving husband, Ronald Harmon Parry. They were happily married for 60 cherished years.
Together they had 3 wonderful sons: Gregg Ronald Parry (Janice Harrison), Kenneth Reeve Parry (Laurie Greninger), and Steven Roger Parry (Audrey Smith). Grethe was preceded in death by her eldest son Gregg. Grethe’s posterity includes 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with 2 more arriving shortly. They all have special treasured memories of their twinkling, green-eyed Oldemor.
Grethe’s life was dedicated to service to her family and her church. Family always came first with her love of attending every family event and providing all the baked goods, because hers were the best. She kept a lovely garden and an inviting home. Grethe had a beautiful soprano voice and toured around the world as a member of the Southern California Mormon Choir. She was very proud of serving a three year mission as a docent with Ron at the Salt Lake City Conference Center, and teaching Danish to prospective missionaries at the Missionary Training Center. But the thing she was treasured for most, was welcoming each and every person with her radiant smile and warm loving hugs at the chapel doors every Sunday.
We are grateful for our knowledge that she is living with our Heavenly Father, and that we will be reunited again someday. She will be in our hearts forever and sorely missed.
Services will be held December 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5028 Cochran, Simi Valley, CA 93063. There will be a special gathering from 10 to 11 a.m. for family and close friends. The interment will take place in Manti, Utah at a future date.
