Obituary of Margaret M. Adler

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret (Peggy) Adler Peggy Adler (aka “Tutu”) was born on August 12, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to Chet and Peg Morledge. She passed away on December 2, 2015 at the age of 91. Mom was an only child and was able to travel with her parents on business trips and visit many places around the country. She started college at Purdue University where she strived to be a hospital dietician. Mom had a little issue with her chemistry class and had to switch majors. She transferred to the University of Akron where she received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Since sociology is the study of people, it was the perfect major for mom! Mom met Bob Adler at Purdue and they were married on December 21, 1945. They lived in several places while Bob was going to law school and then settled in Evanston, IL. There they started a family with Peggy Dee, born in 1949, and Robert, born in 1951. They lived in Evanston until 1955 when they moved to Los Angeles. After moving to L.A., daughter Mary Lou was born in 1957. While living in the Westwood area of Los Angeles, mom was very engaged with volunteer activities concerning the children as well as her own interests. She helped with Westwood Little League, Marina Rifle & Pistol Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA and Youth Employment. In 1971, Peggy, Bob and Mary Lou moved to Vista, California. After Bob Adler left mom in 1972, she had to step up and make a new life for herself, and return to the work force. She first got a part time job at the Vista courthouse in the law library which then led to a position as the Jury Commissioner. She loved the daily interaction with the judges and attorneys and made many dear friends at work. Mom retired in 1989 and then was able to devote her time to her volunteer activities and social life. She volunteered her time with Children’s Home Society, Girls Inc, Vista Historical Society, Vista Chamber of Commerce and the Vista Library. She went on many wonderful vacations and enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren around the country. Mom was a great organizer and was always putting together luncheons and movie nights and played mah jongg up at the clubhouse where she lived in Pacifica (Oceanside). She loved to entertain and always had the perfect recipe for any occasion. In 2006, due to health issues, mom moved to Aegis of Granada Hills, an assisted living facility very close to where Mary Lou lives. The hardest part was watching dementia steal the wonderful mind mom had. But until the end, she was smiling. She remained at Aegis until she passed on December 2. Peggy is survived by her children Peggy, Robert and Mary Lou; six grandchildren: Carolyn, Deana, Kate, Justin, Trevor and Rebecca and four great-grandchildren. Our family would like to especially thank the wonderful care managers and staff at Aegis of Granada Hills and the amazing angels at Assisted Hospice Care. Also we would like to thank our friends and family for the outpouring of love and affection for mom. She was indeed a shining light, always with a smile and a laugh and a kind word for everyone. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Assisted Home Hospice Foundation, or a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held sometime in early 2016. To contact the family, email ML4PTA@gmail.com. If you have a favorite memory of mom, feel free to share in the Condolences section or email us. Much love, Mary Lou, Peggy and Robert
