Obituary of Maebelle Manuwia Librando

MAEBELLE MANUWIA LIBRANDO, 81, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015. Survived by her husband, Greg & children – Mililani, Mailani, Grego, Gralyn & Glenn; 8 Grandchildren & 10 Great Grandchildren. Siblings – Harmon, Harvey, Iraday & Ronald. Funeral service will be held at The San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center on February 23, 2015 From1-6PM 12953 Branford St, Pacoima, CA 91331 with Pastor Ruy officiating. Maebelle was born on October 27, 1932 in Honolulu, Oahu, but raised in Michigan and California before returning to Maui with her Ohana, parents: James and Violet Ah Sam. She graduated in 1952 from Baldwin High School on Maui. She worked as a Worker’s Compensation Audit Reviewer until she retired in 1997. Maebelle shared her love with her husband, Greg, to continue to promote Hawaiian Music within the community. On July 2001 Maebelle & Greg were recipients of “Hawaiians of the Year”. Maebelle was also hostess of several radio shows including KGIL AM Radio with Bill Barry & Aloha Sunday with Aloha Joe. She served as mistress of ceremonies at many function as well as Chairperson for the annual Hoolaulea in Northridge. Aside from her love for cooking & collecting cookbooks, Maebelle is Greg’s greatest supporter as she works diligently to organize the music that Greg needs for his classes. She also enjoyed camping & talking stories with friends & family.
