Obituary of Margaret "Peg" Vargo

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Vargo (better known to all her friends and family as Peg) was born on Halloween, October 31, and raised in the perpetually busy Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Peg did some traveling as a child, living for a while in Cape Cod, Massachusettes. She was raised by two loving parents, Joseph and Marie and had a very hectic childhood being the next to youngest of nine siblings. Unfortunately tragedy struck their family when one of her siblings was stillborn. Misfortune struck again when three more of her siblings died due to the first flu epidemic during the second world war. Though her family was weathered by sadness their Roman Catholic faith got them through these very difficult times. Peg was a very intelligent woman and easily graduated High School and went on to attend Beauty School. She did this profession for a short period of time but her heart was never truly in it and she found herself looking for something else. When she was in her twenties she decided to sign up for the Coast Guard and served her country for a few years as a Seaman first class. While in the Coast Guard that left Pittsburgh, and was stationed in San Francisco where she fell deeply in love with the golden state of California. While on leave from the Coast Guard she met her future mother in law who played cupid and introduced Peg to the man of her dreams, Eugene Vargo. The handsome Gene had also served our country in the US Army Air force where he was a valiant master sergeant in the Korean War. Instead of love at first sight it was love at first dance. Peg and Gene both shared the love of dancing and it was that love that propelled their romance into something really spectacular. When Gene saw Peg dance for the first time he immediately fell in love and knew she was the one with whom he would spend the rest of his life. Not long after their meeting, the pair married. Peg and Gene had three children together, the eldest is their daughter Marilynn followed by the two boys, Edward and Elliott. Gene was stationed in Kansas for awhile but after ending his military career the couple decided to move the family to Torrance, California. Gene accepted a job with TWA airlines and the family made the move. They bought their first home to raise their children and those walls saw a lot of happy family memories. Peg was very involved in her children’s education and always wanted the best for them. She attended PTA meetings and did a lot of volunteering at the school. As a family they would take trips to Corrigan Ville in Simi Valley. They fell in love with the peacefulness of the small town and eventually moved the family there. After their busy lives of perpetual motion they finally settled down and lived there happily for thirty years. In their retired life they spent a lot of time with their grandchildren, Elliott’s children Kenny and Paula and their great grandchildren, Ace and Desi. They once tried to make the move to Las Vegas, but Peg’s heart belonged to sunny California. Peg resided in Reminiscence Neighborhood and was very much loved. Her family was a constant presence there and enjoyed telling the tale of the story book romance that she and her husband had. Peg’s journey ended on August 29th, 2014. A memorial service will be held at the Rose Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4444 Cochran Street, Simi Valley, CA 93063 on Friday, September 5th at 10:30am.
