Obituary of Sophie Nailor Hollister

Sophie Nailor Hollister, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died Sunday evening June 8, 2014 peacefully in Thousand Oaks, California. She was 97 years old. Sophie was born in Schenectady, New York on November 2, 1916. She had two twin sisters five years older. The families remained very close thru the years. Sophie married Lewis B. Hollister and they had two sons together, Gary and Brian. Sophie and Lewis both worked at General Electric Company as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law. They put over 100 years of service to General. Sophie lost her husband in 1973 as Lewis died from a brain disease at age 60. In years remaining from 1973 to 2005, Sophie remained active in her LDS faith, active in golf, bowling, and line dancing and socializing with her sisters. In golf, Sophie followed the joy of this sport with husband, Lewis and sons Gary and Brian. She scored several hole in ones. She also choreographed several line dancing performances for local senior groups. She even taught line dancing at senior centers. As illnesses struck in her sisters from 1997 thru 2005, Sophie remained faithfully at the sister’s side during those difficult times. In early 2005, Sophie decided to move out west with her youngest son, Brian in California and closer to her oldest son, Gary, who lives in Utah. From 2005, Sophie lived in Moorpark at her own second floor apartment. She continued to be active in her LDS faith, socializing with friends, attending card games, bingo, and luncheons. A constant reader, she read through a complete book in just one day. Sophie quickly adapted to California living. She visited her son and his family in Utah on several occasions. She also enjoyed adapting to the computer. Crossword puzzles were a constant joy for her. She enjoyed swimming with fellow club members at her apartment complex. Sophie is survived by her sons and daughter in laws, Gary and Beverly Hollister; Brian and Gillian Hollister. Also, her grandsons Michael (Utah), James (Utah), Dan (Utah), Nicholas (Tennessee), and Greg (California). Further her two granddaughters Melissa (California) and Amy a Doctor in California. All remaining great grandchildren were touched by Sophie’s presence and involvement with them Services will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 11:30 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, 15351 N. Benwood Drive, Moorpark, Ca 93021
