Obituary of Henry Hadenfeld

Henry "Hank" Hadenfeld passed away peacefully on February 6, 2014. Hank will be forever remembered as the gentle tall, strong man who had tremendous joy, love and respect for his family. Hank was born the second to youngest of 7 children, weighing in at a mighty 12 lbs 1 oz on a farm in Dennison, Iowa. Born and raised on the farm, the chores were priority. He wasn't shy about being in "hot water" most of the time with his parents. Hank was a clown and seemed to find some way to always chase trouble! He left the farm at age 17 (requiring his father's signature which he all too gladly gave!) to join the Navy where he served for 4 years and during the Korean War Conflict. After the Navy, Hank took a job as a truck driver driving for a local nursery and delivering plants. He met his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" in 1954 and they were married 6 weeks later. They were married for 55 years until Betty's death in 2009. Hank is preceded in death by Betty, son Robert Henry Hadenfeld and 5 of his 6 siblings. Hank is survived by his wonderful daughter Debbie of Tucson, AZ, and daughters and sons-in-laws of Simi Valley, CA, Cheryl and Bill Hogue and Lori and Bob Karin. Hank is also survived by the true joy of his life, granddaughter Ashley Elizabeth Karin (18) of Simi Valley, CA. Hank was a faithful Teamster and drove trucks until he retired. Usually short haul loads, Dad was proud of his work ethic which he gave to his children. Hank lived in Simi Valley before retiring to Chandler, AZ in 1992. They returned to Simi Valley in 2007 to be nearer to children. Hank was proud of his children and granddaughter. He was big into having family time and talked often about the cruise the entire family took to Alaska shortly after his wife passed away. For him to have his family surround him made him who he was. He enjoyed playing cards- any kind of card game, and was active in prior years at Vintage Simi Hills where he lived the last 5 years. He was vice-president of the Resident Council, loved to listen to the entertainment and went on many of the outings. Hank will be remembered as a fighter, whose strength and perseverance got him through some of the most challenging moments of his life. Hank will be remembered as a friend to all! Whereever he went, he seemed to run into someone he knew. Hank will be remembered for his loud and booming voice that would carry a conversation throughout an entire neighborhood! Hank will be remembered as the jokster he most often was and that he just enjoyed the simplest things in life. Most importantly, Hank's legacy is that he leaves behind very independent, strong daughters and granddaughter who will stay committed to the values he taught- hard work, commitment, getting along with others and a genuine love of life and where it takes you! A celebration of his life is being planned for Tuesday February 11, 2014 at 4 pm at the Rose Family Funeral Home Chapel.
