"I love daddy, He was lighthearted, friendly, generous and kind to everyone. And a very intelligent man who was loved by so many who crossed his path. He always only good things to say and stories to share to everyone. Some of my most precious memories were when dad took Bruce and I, Diana Kim to Balboa Park to feed the ducks when we were little. I remember when mom and dad took the whole family every year to Highland Springs and Palm Springs on vacation. That was so much fun. Dad was a talented, well-loved entrepreneurial business owner who was loved by many of the movie and rock stars. I have many memories there. I remember after daddy opened Jay Jordan Shoes in Century City, his 3rd store, I was in junior high school. I used to spend weekends with dad at his shoe store. I remember. Daddy invited me to try on his Sample Shoes. My feet were the right fit for the next season sales. That was a fun father-daughter time. I was so proud of daddy. I remember Cher came in the store often and would give dad tickets to concerts as many other rock stars did. He always passed them on to me. This was during the "Woodstock days." I remember one year my school didn't allow us to wear white go-go boots to Jr high. My dad was known as the cool dad with the coolest Italian leather shoes. So, I wore his red, blue and purple go-go boots. I loved them and they were allowed because they were not white. I remember when dad and his wife, Marian came to visit me in Fort Collins, Co many years ago and read books to my beautiful son, Max, named after his dad. I remember dad used to take Marian and I out for Sunday Brunch every week in Calabasas. Then we would go for walks around the lake. And so much more. I remember dancing with dad many times, I remember dad beat me at a game of pool. I remember dad used to take Bruce and I to Dodgers Stadium to see the baseball games every year. And during the week dad always brought Bruce and I Cupid's Hot dogs all the time.. You were such a fun-loving man, special man the cool dad always to me. I miss you daddy, I love you!! Your daughter, Diana Kim

I am Marc's sister, Judy Sapir, and Jordan's niece. To add to Marc's lovely statement about Uncle Jordan I don't recall him very much from my childhood as I was probably around 8+ when he left for LA. I did see him once as an adult on a visit to LA. Uncle Jordan and wife Marian took me out for brunch at a beautiful spot overlooking the ocean. It was a very enjoyable visit and I remember his warm, outgoing, cheerful, and welcoming personality. Later I did visit him at his memory care residence a couple of times when out in LA. It is so nice to see him dancing in the photos and videos. My mom, Jordan's sister, liked to dance too. It seems to be a family trait as both Susie and I love to dance and my brother Marc is also quite light on his feet!

Jordan was my uncle (my mom's brother). I was 11+ when he and Helen and Suzie moved out to LA, so I do remember him quite well. I only saw him once or twice after that, even though I've lived here in the Bay Area most of my life. I've also never met Suzie's siblings. One reason I remember Jordan ( I didn't know he went by 'Jay") was that the Gustins always kept saying that I was just like him--in looks and personality. I have no idea why they said that, but it became a family thing. I'll be 80 in 3 months myself; but I remember Jordan as being a friendly and soft spoken fellow. Of the 5 Gustin children of Max and Sally he was the most easy going--or at least outwardly he was. I am not that. Uncle Jordan was also pretty smart to move away. Too many family members (including in-laws like my dad and Howie Glick) were involved in that family business and the stresses that created within Gustinettes contributed at least a little bit to my own dad's death at age 62 of his 3rd heart attack. I regret that I never had any conversation with Jordan about his time in the army. I became an anti-Vietnam war activist in the 1960s so it would have been interesting to learn about his experiences. But at 10 or 11 it never crossed my mind to interview him on that. From what I've heard from Suzie his last years in the place he died weren't half bad. I guess, despite mental decline he kept dancing his way into the future. Having cared for cognitively impaired patients and had my mother decline until she was barely alive at 97, I was less saddened by Jordan's passing than by Suzie having recently lost her husband. marc sapir MD, MPH (retired)

I met Jay at Silverado where my husband also spent his last years.
Jay was a sweet, gentle man and knowing him left a place in my heart.
Keeping in touch with Sue, has been a blessing, and I feel lucky to have met Jay.
My heart goes out to you Sue, and your entire family.

I remember going to Jay Jordon Shoe Store as a child and coming home with a new pair of shoes that I thought were "divine," (a word I remember using to describe my new shoes and my delight with the selection Uncle Gus offered. Must be a tribute to his taste in shoes and fashion or to his sensitivity to a young niece!
