Obituary of Victor Reyes

Please share a memory of Victor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Victor George Reyes, 79, passed away comfortably at home on Friday, April 26, with his family by his side. Victor is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joan, and their children, Fred, Randy, Debbie, and Renee Reyes, John and James Colley, and Joseph Sarabia. Known throughout the Simi Valley community and the Cosmetology industry as "Mr. Reyes," he was chosen to open the Simi Valley Adult School of Cosmetology in 1975. Having been in the field of cosmetology for over 50 years, Mr. Reyes instructed 3 generations of families who successfully obtained their cosmetology licenses. Some went on to become instructors in the field, while others opened their own salons. Victor was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp after serving a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War. Having seen so many of his fellow Marines perish from the ravages of this war, it was then that he dedicated his life to helping and serving people. Born in North Hollywood, July 28, 1933, Victor was the 8th child of 15 children born to Frederick Ruiz Reyes and Maria Servantes Ochoa Reyes who immigrated from Mexico to start their family. Victor is survived by 5 brothers and 4 sisters, Tom, David, Dan, Dennis, and Artie Reyes, Simona Gist, Teresa Hernandez, Martha Milner, and Judy Reyes. Coordinated by Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, a viewing will be held on Friday, May 3, from 5PM to 9PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3979 Township Avenue, Simi Valley. Services will be held at the same location on Saturday, May 4, at 10AM. Graveside service will be at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
