I was an undergraduate in psychology at CSUN from 1973-1978 and spend a year as a Master's student. Sam was my mentor in statistical methods. I learned so much from him. I am now at the University of Wisconsin as a full professor and I still owe a great deal of my intellectual curiosity to Sam and those early days when I was his student.

What can I say, I just saw the obituary and I am at a loss for words. Samuel Pinnesu was a friend and mentor of mine, we worked together at Cal State Northridge and did independent research together and he was more than kind and a mentor but an inspiration to me and I think of him often, and I was thinking of him when I found his obituary. He was a special man, as noted previously, a selfless person who believed the best in people. He helped me endlessly without wanting anything in return. I miss the countless hours we spent together in his office and in the lab at Cal State Northridge. Those are very special times to me that I will always have in my memory. I love you Dr. Pinneau. Thank you!

I attended Sam's statistics course as an undergraduate and soon became friends. I obtained my MA under SAM in 1978 during which we worked together on a research project. I recall hauling 15 boxes of punch cards to the IBM mainframe across campus many times. We had lunch together practically every day for years. I had many issues including ADHD and Bipolar disorder which remained undiagnosed until I was over 50-years-old. Needless to say, I was not very easy to be around; nevertheless, Sam looked past my quirkiness and saw the real person. He was a Father, friend, and mentor to me. He broke through my low self-esteem and focused on my capabilities. The academic knowledge and emotional support I received from him literally changed my life. In fact, I owe all of my achievements in some way to him. I loved him and will never forget his influence on my life.
