David Painter posted a condolence
Sunday, October 16, 2016
I send my heart felt condolences to Don's wife and family over his death. I have such wonderful memories of Don and his two brothers and sister, as they showed my brother and I about life in Natches. We went to the dump and shot rats, played in the irrigation ditch and generally just had fun. My father, Val Painter, and Don's mother, Gladys, were first cousins. My family lived in Seattle, and visiting Natches was always a looked forward to trip. We generally stayed at Harry and Nora's, as they had several extra bedrooms. The MacNeil house wasn't that big and those three big brothers seemed to fill it up. Looking at Don's pictures accompanying this notice, he looks just like his dad. During the winter, I have this memory of someone turning on the oven to high, and opening the oven door to heat the kitchen. The house was always filled with laughter as Gladys and her daughter, Dorothy, seemed to be laughing all the time. My brother, Dick, and I, both born in the early '40's, thought all the MacNeils were just so filled with life. His quote showed a man who gave back to his life and to his world. Know he left good memories along the way.

Four weeks ago today, Dad...I'm thinking of your passing with a heavy heart, and praying you are at peace. Your family loves you very much, and your absence is greatly felt. With much love--always--from your youngest daughter.

Dear Eleanor
We have just learned the death of Don and it has been a real shock for Marie Jo and me.
Added with your visit in Paris long years ago, we have regularly exchanged mails with Don and it allowed us to know him better. He was good, warm, interested by others. We shall keep in our minds the souvenir of his deep kindness and rectitude.
We also think of you and your distressed life. We hope that your pain will decrease with the passing months and that the best souvenirs will stay.
With the warmest love of all the family.
Marie Jo, Yves, Christopher, Isabelle and Nicolas
