Obituary of Christine Helga Davies

Please share a memory of Christine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Christine Helga Eidner Davies, at the age of 79, passed away peacefully June 28, 2016. Born and raised in Chemnitz, Germany (which following WWII was part of East Germany), Christine, at the age of 19, made the courageous decision to leave her mother and The University of Leipzig, traveling alone to the west to escape Communism, with only the clothes she was able to wear, ending in Heidelburg, West Germany. Having met a young American on a double blind-date while working for American Express, she received permission to move to The United States to marry her Lieutenant, Daniel M. Davies Jr. Purchasing a one-way ticket, her courage and sense of adventure, remained on clear display as she arrived in Boston just before Thanksgiving, November 1957 and married her love a few days later. Among many, two of her proudest moments were when she became a US Citizen in 1960 and, a few years later, was able to travel back behind the Iron Curtain to visit her family along with her very young son (Daniel) and daughter (Jennifer). While she eventually worked for over 10 years with Volkswagen in New Stanton, PA, her most cherished time was spent devoted to taking care of her family. Always a beautiful warm cheerful person with many dear friends who cared deeply for her, she created a loving, happy home and is deeply missed already. Christine is survived by her husband of 59 years, Daniel M. Davies Jr., who never left her side and made sure to spend their last years happily holding hands. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her caring son, Daniel E. Davies, his spouse Alice Lyon and their sons, Daniel, Mark & Will, as well as her loving daughter Jennifer D. Carango, her spouse Keith Carango and their sons, Zachary, Austin & Luke. A memorial honoring Christine will be held, August 8, 2016 from 3-7pm at their home, for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Senior Concerns, 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360, www.seniorconcerns.org. Senior Concerns and their entire staff cannot be thanked enough for all of the kindness and support they provided Christine and her family, during the very difficult times, as she and all of those who loved her came to grips with the mental, physical and emotional ravages of dementia.
