To all my Aunt Anita's family members,
I just want to say that, although I didn't keep in touch with Aunt Anita often, I always really enjoyed talking and being with her when we did get together. The last time I saw her in person was when she went to Casper, Wyoming to my mother Rose Nation Wemmer's memorial service in February 2006. She stayed with us at Mom and Bill's house, so I had the luck of being able to chat and hug her all I wanted for those few days.
I remember that she was quite a reader and would read anything, but inhaled current fiction, both good and bad. In fact, one of my earliest memories of her was when I was a kid bugging her for some of peanuts she was snacking on while lounging on the sofa reading. She was very generous up until all the other kids came clamoring for peanuts, which ended her reading as she went off in a huff to get some peace and quiet in her room, which was off the left hand side hall of the kitchen in the Nation Family farmhouse, which was located between Basin and Greybull, Wyoming.
Before Grandma and Grandpa had in-door plumbing put in the house (yes, true story) we used the out-house that was out the back door of the kitchen, which to my memory and very short legs of a little one seemed hundreds of feet away. Aunt Anita's bed had a fluffy feather mattress, and when we went visiting Grandma and Grandpa on the farm, until she moved away from home, Aunt Anita let me share her cozy bed - I suppose because I was the oldest of my mom's girls. (A side note here: she wasn't always tolerant of all these kids invading her space.) Anyway, one cold winter night (we must have been there for either Thanksgiving or Christmas) I woke up having to go out to the out house. She was annoyed, but patient, as she took me out trudging through the packed snow that led to the tiny house at the other end of the big back yard.
I also remember one Christmas when there was a flurry of present wrapping going on in Grandma and Grandpa's bedroom where temporarily there were NO KIDS ALLOWED. For some reason an adult sent me in there to deliver something, and while there I spied three Barbie Doll boxes mixed in with a ton of other things I paid no attention to...all I saw were the Barbies! Aunt Anita was shocked that I saw them, quickly tossed something over them, looked me straight in the eye and told me "not to say a word!". It was then that I realized that, although there were a ton of cousins around who could be the recipients, the Barbies were for ME and my SISTERS! I had promised her, so I didn't expose the truth, and I think she always appreciated that I could keep a secret.
I loved Aunt Anita and am happy that She no longer suffers. Science shows us that energy changes from one type to another. I believe in a state of existence that our souls, our sparks, our energies dissipate to...some call it Heaven. I believe ours souls meet up and mingle with our ancestors and loved ones, and that since our sparks no longer are contained in a physical body all pain is forgotten and there is only love remaining. Aunt Anita is now a part of that vast Love, and I look forward to seeing Her again when my time comes.
Much love to you Laurie and Mac, and to your families,
Your cousin,
Cyndy Hill
