Obituary of Delores Ellen Hansen
Please share a memory of Delores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Delores (Dee) Schoenberg Hansen passed away on January 6, 2016, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Dee was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Harry and Myrtle (Riley) Schoenberg on March 16, 1930. After graduating from Eau Claire High School, Dee moved to Washington, D.C., where she met and married Gilbert Hansen in 1950. They had three children, Gilbert, Victoria, and Scott as their army life took them to Germany, North Dakota, Alaska, and finally Hawaii.
Dee fell in love with Hawaii the first time they had R&R on Oahu. She loved the island life; the beach, the flowers, the weather, the aloha spirit, the good friends she made. She enjoyed volunteering at the Diamond Head and Leeward Community College Theatres, shopping with friends and eating out. In fact, she loved eating out—brunches were her favorite.
Dee loved her job at Trippler Army Medical Center. She loved the people and the mission. She retired after 53 years of civil service in 2012, leaving many good friends to enjoy retirement.
Her greatest joy was her family. She never missed a birthday, a family celebration, or holiday, and she always had a card and kind word for each of us.
After retiring, Dee moved to Moorpark, California where she delighted in family events with her sons and their families. She loved watching baseball, choir concerts, drama performances, and a high school graduation. She joined the Moorpark Senior Center and looked forward to special luncheons there. And, true to form, she loved Sunday brunches with her family and going to the mall. She was so happy to be in California to enjoy her family.
Dee is survived by her dear brother Kenneth (Kopy) Schoenberg and his family, two devoted sons, Scott Hansen (wife Laura) and Gilbert Hansen, ten grandchildren, and many great- and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Hansen (1977) and her loving daughter Victoria Churchill (2010).
Dee gave to everybody. She gave her time, her attention, her friendship, and her love. She always thought of others and never of herself. Her loving spirit will live with all of us who were fortunate enough to be part of her life. She was a loving, strong, and gracious woman and she will be missed every day.
Services will be held at the Rose Family Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, 2016, 3:00 pm. Internment will take place in Hawaii at a future date.
