Obituary of John Armstrong

John Armstrong passed away after a long illness on September 3, 2015 peacefully in his home and surrounded by his family. John was born on November 15, 1946 in Port Chester, New York to Jack and Prudence Armstrong. As a child in an Air Force family, John grew up in several locations across the USA as well as in England and Okinawa, Japan.
John graduated from UCLA in 1969 with a degree in History. In 1970, John married his college sweetheart, Barbara Myers. Their son Jack was born in 1972 and daughter Amy was born in 1974. John moved to Thousand Oaks in 1973 and remained a Thousand Oaks resident until the time of his death.
John spent his career working for Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals as a sales representative and sales manager. As an Oncology specialist, John gained a reputation for his ability to see the big picture and ability to instill hope in his clients and colleagues. John was known for his vibrant and engaging personality. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed listening to classical music and watching Dodgers and UCLA games. John was also highly involved in volunteer work in the Conejo Valley. He was a Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Westlake Village, and he was also a volunteer at Los Robles Hospital.
John is survived by his wife Barbara of 45 years, sister Carol of Woodland, CA, his son Jack Armstrong of Poulsbo, WA, daughter Amy Theaker of Oak Park, CA, son in law David Theaker, and his 2 precious grandchildren Carly and Dylan Theaker. John’s family loved spending time with him and all see him as an exemplary role model. Funeral services for John Armstrong will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on 32111 Watergate Drive in Westlake Village on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 1:00pm. There will be a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, John’s family request that a donation be made in John’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
