Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donald Patrick Fulkerson, 70, of Simi Valley, CA, passed away on August 14, 2015.
Don was born in Santa Monica, CA and was adopted by Harold and Clara Fulkerson on July 16, 1945. He went to high school at Santa Monica High and graduated in 1963. He worked at McDonnell Douglas as an airplane engineer and service technician. He decided to pursue self-employment and was the owner operator of True Blue Pool Cleaning services for over 30 years. From an early age, he had a passion for movies; watching them in the theater and at home and collecting them. Without officially counting, it is very likely he has over 1,000 DVD’s in his collection.
Don married his wife, Laurel, in 1981 for an amazing 34 year marriage. They enjoyed going to Broadway performances, watching movies and TV shows together, and travelling to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Alaska, the Caribbean islands, and Tahiti.
Don was a quiet person, always in the background, but intricately involved in all facets of everyone’s lives. He started early with the involvement in his son, Kyle’s, baseball and basketball games. He attended every baseball, basketball, bowling, and golf tournament that his son Scott ever played in. Even if the golf course did not allow spectators, he would map out the golf course and find a way to interweave between crossing streets to watch every golf stroke, never being off in his score by more than 1 stroke. When Scott got married, he always attended his family-in-laws sporting events to cheer them on in support. When his grandchildren were born, he stayed in the background, letting everyone else share in the moment. To him, this was happiness, watching others in their joy.
Without thinking twice, he offered to watch his grandchildren every day, while Scott and Chelsi were at work. Almost every day he would watch over Brynn and Peyton, introducing Brynn to Disney movies, helping her learn to walk and watching her grow to a beautiful 3 year old girl. He would take Brynn to gymnastics class every week, guiding her over the balance beam. Moments of Brynn lying on Don’s stomach, cuddling on the couch watching Disney movies, will ever be etched into everyone’s memory. Don’s love for his family glowed from him when he talked about Scott’s success at sports, and all the things that Brynn and Peyton would do each and every day. His patience and calm demeanor were unsurpassed by any other person and a virtue that anyone would strive to live by.
Don is survived by his wife, Laurel Fulkerson of Simi Valley, his Sons, Scott Fulkerson and Kyle Fulkerson, and two Grandchildren, Brynn Fulkerson and Peyton Fulkerson.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all those that who have reached out and expressed their condolences.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 in a private ceremony.
