Obituary of Richard Chambers

Richard Dale Chambers, 75, passed away at the Simi Valley Hospital on April 30, 2014, following a brief illness.
Dick was born in the small farming community of Palmyra, Iowa on February 1, 1939, to Kenneth Irvin Chambers and Margaret Mary Rodgers. Dick was the younger of two brothers. Dick worked in farm fields as a youth and graduated from high school in Hartford, Iowa. He loved playing all sports especially basketball.
He spent a total of eight years serving in the Iowa National Guard and U. S. Army and was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado.
On March 26th, 1958, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Kay McVay. To this union two sons were born.
Following his military service, Dick returned to Iowa where he worked on the family farm for several years. In 1963 he joined United Air Lines in Des Moines, Iowa and in 1972 he transferred to Los Angeles, where he worked with United for twenty years. Dick was injured in a traffic accident in 1978 that left him partially disabled. He was forced to eventually retire from United Airlines as a result of his injuries.
In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling the country in his motorhome with Marilyn and their dog Benki. Dick enjoyed buying and selling antiques. His favorite part of the antique business was the art of negotiating the best deal possible. He was an avid race car fan and enjoyed following Southern California sports teams.
Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Eugene Chambers and both of his parents. Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn and their two sons, Joe Chambers, and his wife Rhonda of Highlands Ranch, Co. and Ron Chambers, and his wife Kristi of Simi Valley, Ca. Dick also leaves behind five grandchildren; Brandon Chambers and his partner Nora Li of Aurora, Co., Erinn Chambers of Aurora, Co., Madison Guyette and her husband Stephen of Henderson, Nv., Schuyler Chambers of Lincoln Ne. and Lincoln Chambers of Socorro, New Mexico.
In accordance with his wishes Dick's remains will be cremated. He will be laid to rest at a later time in Palmyra Cemetery which is located in the small Iowa farming community where he was born.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held at the Rose Family Mortuary on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 1000 a.m.
