Obituary of Maxine Smith

Maxine, daughter of Max and Mae Hughes, a resident of Simi Valley for more than 75 years, passed Friday February 7th and was reunited with her beloved husband of 60 years Donald Smith and son Ronnie Smith. Maxine is survived by her daughters Pamela Langford, Deborah Smith and her spouse Thomas Rex, Grandchildren Jennifer Harris and her spouse David, Jesse Rogers and his spouse Amy, Erin Langford, Dylan Langford, Taylor Rex and great Grandchildren Chase Harris, Sean Rogers, Tiffany Harris, Izaiah, Khloe. She is also survived by her sister Juanita Stovall. Maxine is also survived by her beloved dog Sally. Maxine lived by example, always helping others. Maxine and Don were both recipients of the distinguished Others Award from the Salvation Army. Maxine was a dedicated wife, mother, grandma (gram), sister and friend. Maxine was loved by many and will be missed by all. Maxine and Don, in their younger years were very active in the community and very dedicated to volunteering with the Salvation Army. Spending more than 25 years serving others, they went to the mid-west to help flood victims, El Salvador to aid the community after the earthquake, Kauai after the hurricane to help the victims and countless times serving food to our police and firefighters during fires and other emergencies. Maxine and Don loved to travel and spent much of their retirement traveling the world while they weren't volunteering. Maxine and Don took all of their kids and grandkids on numerous cruises, travels to national monuments, fishing, hunting and countless camping trips. Another one of their many joys were family barbeques. Maxine looked forward to her weekly social club events and could be found often at Bingo night and finding treasures at garage sales. Maxine cherished the wonderful friendships she had made over her many years. She will be missed more than words can express. The family would like to thank the many neighbors and friends that have been there for Maxine and Don over the years. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maxine's memory to the Salvation Army, 1407 E Los Angeles Ave, Simi Valley CA 93065. A celebration of Maxine's life will be held Friday, February 21st at 2pm at the Simi Valley Elks Lodge, 1561 Kuehner Dr. Arrangements are being handled by Rose's Funeral Home.
