Obituary of Margaret Powell
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a lengthy discussion with our Heavenly Father, on January 6, 2014, Marie accepted his invitation to join her celestial family. Marie was born to David and Myrtle Crosswhite on August 6, 1931 in Leighton Alabama. Marie was the fourth child having been preceded in life (and death) by brothers ED and Larry and sister Louise. In time the family ended up in Houston, Texas where she met Air Force Corporal Tom Powell at a YWCA dance. After a short courtship Marie decided she could put up with this California "Yankee" and she accepted his marriage proposal. (Besides that, they danced well together and Marie loved to dance!!) On January 31, 1952 the couple married. In a couple years son Randy (now of Middleton, Idaho) was born. After a move to Pomona, California, son Larry joined the group in 1956. In 1957 the young family moved to Simi Valley and found their niche. Two more children, Tom (now of Duck Creek, Utah), and at last a daughter Amy completed the family. (Thanks J.O.) Marie was one of the first teacher aides to be hired by SVUSD where she worked many years with special needs students. Even after retirement she continued to substitute when called upon (never could sit still for long). Marie was a member of the PEO service organization and a long time volunteer at the Simi Valley Hospital. She particularly enjoyed family trips to their cabin in Utah during both summer and winter seasons where she enjoyed many years of friends and family gatherings. Marie loved playing Bunko and of course watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Her greatest joy however, was being a part of the growing years of her grandchildren. Allison and Sam in Idaho (Randy - Cindee Powell), Jenna and Jeffrey in Simi (Amy - Jeff Rapp) and Hank in Simi (Larry Powell - Kelly Barron). Altogether her children and grandchildren made Marie the proudest and most blessed person one could hope to be. To her many friends and associates, she gives her thanks and wishes them a life as contented as her own. In the latter part of her life Marie loved going for "drives" to the Crown Plaza and Ventura Harbor with her family and friends to watch the beautiful sunsets. Her smile will be deeply ingrained in our hearts forever. It was truly special family time to spend with her while making wonderful memories. How can anyone put 82 years into words, We miss her already! Love you mom. Special thanks to the caring "givers" at Silver Crown and TLC hospice for their help and comfort during Marie's journey. Special memories and friendships will be shared at the "extended family" gathering; internment will be at the Simi Valley Pioneer Cemetery Monday January 13th at 1:00 pm. A celebration of Marie's life will take place at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers please send contributions in Marie's name to charity of your choice.
