Obituary of Ronald Harmon Parry

Ronald Harmon Parry was born August 23, 1934 to Bernard and Ellareave Parry in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away Thursday, March 6, in Thousand Oaks, California at the age of 89.

Ron grew up in Manti, Utah, the youngest of six children. He loved hunting and fishing and was an extremely hard worker. As a young man, Ron worked for the U.S. Forest Service building fences, and then with his father, at Parry’s Appliance. In 1953, Ron joined the Army where he served as an MP in Germany during the Korean war. He was always very proud to have served his country.

Ron met the love of his life, Grethe Hyllested Jensen, a recent immigrant from Denmark, and the two were married March 25, 1955. They welcomed their first son, Gregg Ronald Parry, in 1956 and then moved to Sunland, California where they welcomed a second son, Kenneth Reave Parry. They then moved to Woodland Hills, California and had their third son, Steven Roger Parry.

In 1964, Ron and his family moved to Simi Valley, California where they bought a nice home in the new Texas tract. Ron still owns that house today.

In California, Ron worked for Lockheed Aerospace, as vice-president of Flotron Industries, and then as senior industrial supervisor for ITT Gilfillan. He also worked nights at Thrifty Drug Store during the late 1950’s so they would be able to buy their first home. In 1978, Ron and his oldest son, Gregg, started Amaron Plumbing. Their other sons, Kenny and Steven later joined the business and they recently celebrated their 45th year in business.

Ron retired in 1998 and he and Grethe moved to Woodland Hills, Utah where they built a beautiful home and went on many adventures with Ron’s siblings. They moved back to Simi Valley in 2013.

Ronald and his family have been active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ron and Grethe served in many positions in the church in Simi Valley, and after retirement, they served as guides for the Church Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Ron is predeceased by his son, Gregg, and his wife, Grethe. He is survived by his son, Kenneth Parry and wife, Laurie, his son Steven Parry and wife, Audrey, 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Barbara and Nelda.

Services will be held Friday, March 15, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3979 Township Ave. Simi Valley, Ca. The viewing will be at 5:00 P.M. and the funeral service will be held at 6:00 P.M.

Ron will be buried in Manti, Utah next to his beloved wife, Grethe.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a U.S. Military organization of your choice or to the Alzheimer’s or Dementia Foundation.
