Obituary of David Rolland Kurtz

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of David R. Kurtz, who departed from this world peacefully in Simi Valley, Ca, on July 5, 2023, at the age of 86.

David was born on August 27, 1936 in Lafayette, Indiana to Lola and Rolland “Sock” Kurtz. He graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1954 and was honored as athlete of the year.  He received a football scholarship to Purdue University and attended until 1956, when he entered the Marines. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Purdue, played fullback for the “boilermakers” and graduated in 1960 with a BS Degree in Physical Education.

After College, David and his parents moved to southern California. David became a teacher and coach in the Los Angeles and Ventura school Districts.  He met and married the love of his life, Joyce Brooks Cisar in 1969 and settled into Northridge, Ca.  He became an instant family man with Joyce and her son Ron Cisar. The couple added to their family with the adoption of Karen Kurtz in 1971. Not satisfied with only teaching and coaching, David graduated Law School in 1976.

David became an accomplished attorney through the years. He loved meeting new people and helping families with their legal concerns. He and Joyce moved to Ventura, Ca in 1988. They became avid golfers at Saticoy country club and traveled the world together.

David is survived by wife Joyce, children and daughter in law Ron and Lisa Cisar of Simi Valley, daughter and son in law Karen and Bill Allen of Orlando, Florida, four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents Lola and “Sock” Kurtz.

A funeral is scheduled for July 24, 2023 at Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, with a reception to follow at onsite. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Davids’s life.  The family would like to thank Oakmont of Simi Valley and Simi Valley Adventist Hospital for their efforts and care. David will be interned in the family plots at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills in a private ceremony on July 25.
