TIL of the passing of my great friend Allison, and it's just absolutely devastating. Our thirteen-year acquaintance dated back to when she first came to Markel, and it was something of a relationship on the fringe @ first, but then blossomed over time due to our common interests and struggles, and increased all the more so in the wake of my own wife's death. She stated that anytime I had something on my mind of which I needed to unload, she'd always be willing to bend an ear. At the workplace our preferred place of occasional lunching was (the now late and lamented) TGI Fridays only a short walk from the business, and later on, after our respective departure from the job, we'd meet for eats @ our favorite hangout, The Hat, nearby to her SV residence. We'd regularly text-message, either offering encouragements to each other, note special days of observance, or trade-off unique English words, then create sentences w/ the use of those to keep our minds continually active in regards to the unusual and offbeat. She was certainly a welcome support-system for me in my time of challenge for which I'm eternally grateful, and I hope that I was able to do the same in turn for her. I knew she had her own life's difficulties to bear and face in different areas, but I trust that she has now found whatever true peace and happiness she seemed to long for toward the end. She will forevermore have a very special, deep and meaningful place in my heart, and I'll always cherish and never forget her. I love you too, dearest Allison. To borrow a line from the film "The Last Samurai", I shall miss our conversations. Such a loss for all of us; you were taken much too soon...
My condolences go to everyone in her family.

I don't have a lot of memories of my senior year of high school that don't have Allison in them. She was pure joy and light, always so much fun to be around. I feel like I spent more time laughing with her than anything else, except maybe singing along to ABBA Gold. My family is the keeper of memories, so I've been diving into all our band/guard pictures, and it's been a trip to relive. It was truly nothing magnificent to watch her perform, especially at winterguard.
I was on one of the trips to Spain that Allison (and Jennifer!) took in 1999, and I treasure the memories in particular from that trip, as it was my first time out of the country. Something that came back to me recently was that on the flight there, I got very motion sick during landing, and just when I put the barf bag away, I threw up everywhere, all over myself. A lesser friend might have run screaming, but Allison didn't blink. She took care of me with a chorus of "poor thing, are you okay?" and even helped clean my hair. That's the friend I remember -- the kindest, silliest, most generous, most beautiful person.

Allison, I loved growing up next door to you. You were such a huge part of my childhood. There’s hardly a memory without you and Jennifer in it. I love you.

Allison- I miss you so much. These past 20 years of friendship have been incredible. We were not just coworkers for 4 years, we became great friends. I have so many wonderful memories of you and the times we spent together. I was sad when you moved to CA from AZ, but I am so glad we kept in touch and we were able to see each other when you came to AZ or I visited you in CA.
At your celebration of life, hearing Jenn mention your "stick chap" brought a smile to my face and it reminded me of the way I teased you lovingly about the way you pronounced ambulance. I love the way you said ambulance and I love that you called Chapstick stick chap. You were unique and had a wonderful light and energy that spread to everyone around you.
You are beautiful inside and out and you and Rick had 2 wonderful children, Olivia and Jacob who were the love of your life. You were such as amazing mom. You will be loved and missed every day.
I am so glad you introduced me to Rick and your kids and I got to know them over the years. Together we will keep you in our hearts and will talk about you often.
Love you,
Lindsay

I always enjoyed our many conversations at Markel. She always wanted to know how to get to the next level and I hope I helped her get there in some way. I will miss her very much.

I have so many memories, it’s hard to focus on one. So I’ll focus on the one I keep thinking about and that is her smile. You know the one with her mouth wide open and all her teeth showing. It felt like she was so happy it took over her entire body, from her head to her toes, and it just came out in that great big beautiful smile. I’m really going to miss that beautiful smile.
