Obituary of Josephine Lillian Bruno

Josephine Bruno passed on peacefully in Simi Valley on Easter Sunday April 9th, 2023 California, at the age of 101!

Josephine is survived by her children Jerry Bruno Jr. and Phillip Bruno, daughters-in-law Susi Bruno and Karen Bruno, her grandchildren, Nicole, Benjamin, Stephanie, Jessica, Victoria, Natalie, Ashley, and her great-grandchildren Joy Josephine, Silas, Leo, and Max.  Josephine is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Bruno and daughter-in-law Cindy Bruno.

Josephine was born on August 12, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio to Benedetto and Giuseppina Manzo.  Josephine, the first generation daughter of Italian immigrants, was taught to love and respect the United States of America and modeled that throughout her life. Josephine graduated from High School in 1938. Josephine married Jerry Bruno in 1953 after moving to Woodland Hills, California. Jerry and Josephine opened a family Italian restaurant (Bruno’s Pizza) in 1955. Together they operated the restaurant for over 40 years. Jerry and Josephine welcomed their two children into their home and set about teaching them about Jesus and the restaurant industry. Jerry Jr. and Phillip remember Josephine as a wonderful mother who modeled compassion and service to others. Josephine encouraged them to follow Jesus and pursue their life goals.

Josephine was an accomplished chef and often made and shared amazing meals with many people.  Josephine was a generous loving person who loved others and who was passionate about caring for her family, and others less fortunate or in need. Josephine was an active and dedicated member of Shepherds Community Church.

Her funeral is scheduled for Friday April 21st 10:00 a.m. at Rose Family Funeral home in Simi Valley. Graveside prayer and sharing to follow immediately at Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth, with a reception to follow. Pastor Paul Brown will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Josephine’s life.

The family would like to thank Millennium care-givers for their compassionate loving care and dedication.
