Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Harry Bowers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, ended his journey here on earth, surrounded by his devoted family on the 11th of September, 2013. Joseph was born to Charles Ernest Bowers and Vera Marie Chamberlin Bowers on October 6th, 1933. Joseph, known as Harry most of his early life, grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah with his two loving sisters, Audrey Marie Arthur and Jeanette (Jerry) Ruth Jarvis. After graduating from East High, he attended and earned an Aeronautical Engineering Degree at Utah State University. Joseph married Shirley Monsen in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on June 29th 1956. Joseph and Shirley were married seventeen years and had four children, Daniel Reid Bowers, Susan Jean Nielsen, Darla Rae Hamilton, and Rebecca Lorene Goold. After college Joseph entered the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant at Lackland, Texas Air force Base, where he began his flight training. Joseph began his career in Aerospace at Thiokol in Logan, Utah. His career continued at Edwards Air Force Base, where Joseph tested and helped design improvements to the Apollo Saturn V rocket engine. Joseph continued his career at Rockwell International designing tests for the space shuttle main rocket engine. Joseph's happiest times at work were when he was in his hardhat on the engine test stand overseeing the engine tests. After Joseph and Shirley were divorced, Joseph met and married Marlene Jones. They were very happy together for three years when Marlene lost a valiant battle with Stomach Cancer. On January 4th, 1980 Joseph married and was sealed to Jacquelin Aida George in the Los Angeles LDS temple. Joseph and Jacquie enjoyed 33 years of marriage together. They loved to travel together visiting the many children and grandchildren, and their Christmas and Father's Day's parties were not to be missed. Joseph will always be remembered for his wry wit and his unyielding commitment to his family as well as his devotion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His children and grandchildren always knew that their "Pops" would have their back and be there to lean on when they needed him. For Joseph, family was first and foremost in his life and he made certain his family knew that. Joseph was survived by his adoring wife Jacquie, 4 children, 2 step-children, 1 sister, 32 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Joseph passed away just prior to his 80th birthday. The funeral services for Joseph Harry Bowers will be held Saturday, the 21st of September at 10 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1276 Erringer Road, Simi Valley, California. No viewing will be held.
