Obituary of Alvin Barnett

Alvin Harold (Barney) Barnett, 86 years old, of Simi Valley, California, passed away on January 18, 2020 in his home in Simi Valley. Memorial service will be held at Church of the Living Christ in Simi Valley on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 am with Reverend Matti Perttula of Church of the Living Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park and Cemetery in Chatsworth. Visitation will be held at Rose Family Funeral Home and Cremation on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Rose Family Funeral Home and Cremation will be handling the funeral arrangements. Alvin Harold Barnett was born in Downey, California to Harold and Pearl Barnett on April 17, 1933. He went to Downey Union High School and graduated in 1952. He enlisted into the Navy in December of 1952 during the Korean War and was Engineer on the USS Catamount LSD 17 until honorably discharged in December 1956. He worked at Rocketdyne for 35 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, taking long walks, working in his yard and on his cars. He was awarded the Astronaut Silver Snoopy Award for excellence in workmanship in the aerospace industry, as well as, achievement awards from Rocketdyne. He was also involved in the American Legion. Alvin Harold Barnett is survived by his two daughters, Tammie Barnett of Simi Valley, Teresa Burek and her husband, Walter Burek, of Delaware. Grandchildren: Britnie Baker, Tricia and Josef Mears, Jonathan Burek. Great-Grandchildren: Kylie Mears, Joseph Mears Jr., Kyler Baker, Kaylie Baker, Haven Burek. He is preceded in death by his spouse, Joyce Barnett. His parents: Harold and Pearl Barnett. Brother: Robert Barnett. Grandchildren: Derek Burek and Chad Burek. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
