Obituary of Thomas O'Brien
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
San Fernando west valley's favorite appliance repairman and Channel Island's fun loving ocean yacht enthusiast passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 11th. Blanche & Thomas O'Brien Sr. gave birth to Tom on January 21, 1957 in Boston MA. They moved to Southern CA in 1974 where he graduated from Taft High School, completed Trade School and became a business owner of Tom's Corbin Appliance. Even as a child he was always drawn to the ocean and lived most of his life either on a yacht or near the sea. A long time member of the Classic Yacht Association, Tom (Capt'n Tom) married his high school sweetheart, Susan Cory in 1982 and they gave birth to their son Patrick in 1990. Tom O'Brien's family and friends will forever miss his infectious smile and his always-optimistic abundant zest for life. Predeceased by his parents and sister Jacqueline, he is survived by his son Patrick, sister Deborah Sasson, former wife Susan, and a boatload of friends who unconditionally loved him as family. Burial will be private on Monday February 25 with Tom resting next to his sister Jackie and his parents, Thomas and Blanche, his uncle Gus and Grandma and Grandpa March. A memorial service for all is being planned for April 6th because it is Patrick's wish that Tom's sister Debbie be here. Please watch Tom's page at Simivalleymortuary.com for updates on this service. Please join Tom's son Patrick and fellow friends and family for a memorial celebration of Tom's life on Saturday April 6, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Jumilla house. The address is 6255 Jumilla Ave., Woodland Hills, CA 91367 (Cross streets are Corbin and Topham) Light snacks and soft drinks will be offered, bring a picnic lunch and lawn chair if desired.
